November in Review

There was no rest for the team in November, with the busy period continuing on from a record breaking October. There were less rural properties and land coming to market as the weather started to dry things out pretty quickly, but the usual Spring influx of residential properties showed no signs of slowing throughout the busy month.

A number of commercial properties were captured by the team as well as the grand opening of Bendigo’s first 7-Eleven store! There were many kids on hand ready to grab a slurpee before school on the opening day. We also attended the All Seasons Hotel in Bendigo throughout the month to capture the facility, room set ups and some specific events such as the Blokes Biggest Lunch.

In some exciting staff announcements we welcome back Molly from maternity leave who will be assisting with admin and also getting back behind the camera soon! We also had some internal promotions with Nick now under the title of Office Manager and Amy K being promoted to Operations Manager. These roles recognise the immense work they both put in and are a reflection of the growing needs of the business.  Amy will still be out taking photos, but will also work behind the scenes to support our photographers and ensure our clients are getting the best service possible. You can read some more about Amy in her staff profile below!

With Christmas fast approaching it is a good time to let you know about our operating hours throughout the festive season. The last day for bookings is Thursday 21st December with this content being delivered on Friday 22nd December. We will be returning to work on Tuesday 2nd January.

Product Insight - Drone Photography

Drone photography has become a necessary part of nearly every marketing campaign in recent years. There are several different types of drone photos that can showcase the property in different ways. The main two being; overhead drone photos and location drone photos.

Overhead drone photos are images looking directly down on the property highlighting the boundaries. These are a good way to showcase the size of the block and also the layout of the residence and any additional features such as sheds, swimming pools or side access.

Location drone photos are images taken from a greater height showing the property and it’s proximity to any local landmarks such as shops, parks or schools.

Apart from these two main types of drone photos, they are also a useful tool to capture a tricky facade at lower heights. This can be utilised if the property is slightly elevated or hidden behind trees or fences. The team also use them extensively when capturing rural properties and farms.

Meet our Operations Manager Amy Kennedy

How long have you worked as a real estate photographer?

About 6 years. I started to work for Nathan at the end of 2017 and haven't looked back.

What is your background in photography?

I studied Studio Arts - Photography for VCE, learning how to shoot and develop my own film and develop prints in the darkroom. I started my own photography business shooting families, newborns and weddings in 2010. I continued to study photography and new editing techniques while focusing more on newborn photography. I attended workshops with newborn photographers such as Kelly Brown to learn from the best. When I started working with Nathan I had never shot Real Estate photography professionally before, and it's all been on the job training and learning. I can honestly say it's helped me become a better photographer all round.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I'm a mum of 2 young girls so having spare time is very limited haha, but I like to just hang out at home with the girls on a weekend if we don't have sport or a birthday party to attend. I like teaching them how to bake or having a fun movie night.

What do you love most about your job?

I love going into the old historic buildings and just feeling like you're a part of something old. Some of the new modern architectural buildings are also really cool to see in contrast, especially when it's a really well-done renovation, mixing the new and the old together. I think the best thing is never really knowing what the property is going to be until you arrive and no two properties are ever the same. Every day for me is different and being able to do something that I really enjoy makes me grateful for my job.

Favourite holiday destination?

We travel to Bright at the start of every year and have a couple of weeks off for quality family time. We spend the days swimming in the creek, going for walks around town and stopping in at the ice creamery for ice cream for the kids.

Favourite TV show?

Friends.
The Simpsons, the earlier seasons around 1-15. Nick and I quote this to ourselves way too much.

I recommend watching This is Us and The Handmaid's Tale.

Favourite book?

Little Women, it's a classic and when Beth gets sick the book goes into the freezer IYKYK.

What music do you listen to?

I still like a lot of the alternative rock bands from the 2000s that I grew up with. Collective Soul, Creed, Switchfoot, Vertical Horizon, Tonic, Staind, 3 Doors Down, Pearl Jam and Nickleback etc
I've had some John Farnham playing recently after watching Finding the Voice.

Favourite food?

Homemade chicken schnitzel burgers are the best.

Favourite restaurant?

I really loved Veer Itailia in Ballarat, but it closed quite a few years ago.

Drink of choice?

Coke.
