July in Review

The team had a busy start to the new financial year, and whilst things slowed down towards the end of the month we still captured a record number of July properties and had the pleasure of attending some amazing homes.

We have been getting a lot of enquiries through our website from around Victoria, other parts of the country and even from overseas (see one of these jobs highlighted below). These have led to a variety of work completed for builders, retail stores and owners selling their own homes.

Several large farms were captured in Victoria and NSW throughout July which were looking magnificent due to recent favourable conditions.

We were also engaged by a global wedding gown design house, based in the USA, to photograph the new Fitzroy Store of one of their retail partners True Society. It is a spectacular space and we were grateful for the opportunity to capture it. Nathan also made sure to grab a selfie at the “instagrammable” area in-store!

Expert Advice - Timing Your Shoot

One thing to keep in mind when arranging a time to photograph your home is the sun position and what time of day your property looks its best. Ideally you would want the sun shining on the front of your house when the photographs are taken, if the sun is behind the house then it will cast shadows and the important facade image will not be as good as it could be. The facade will typically be the main image or “hero shot” for the sales campaign so it is most important to get the conditions optimal for that angle of the house.

Don’t worry if the sun is not shining on the day of your shoot as often an overcast day will provide the most even light with the clouds acting as a diffuser. Our editing team will add in a nice blue sky regardless of the conditions so whilst it is important to do what we can to create the best outcome, we have techniques to work with any situation we may face. Internal images can typically be captured at any time of day as we have better control of the lighting conditions inside the home.

If you are after dusk photography then the timing is dictated by the sunset, with the dusk external images being captured soon after the sun has set. This time obviously changes throughout the year and we adjust our dusk photography start times accordingly.

A larger rural block of land may look appealing in the early morning or late afternoon and some nice images can be captured looking towards the sun. If you are unsure what the best time to capture the property you are showcasing is then just reach out to our team and we can advise on the ideal timing.
